Windfall

This was an evening when I got lucky against all odds.

It was an overcast day at the coast and forecast was not encouraging. Still, as it was an weekend, I decided to go to the coast near Santa Cruz and do a bit of scouting. After stopping at a couple of spots north of Santa Cruz, I ended up at Davenport. High cliffs by the ocean near Davenport was intriguing as always and I decided to take a stroll along the edge of the cliffs. Few minute into it, I met a nice guy near the old pier, visiting from east coast. He set up his tripod there and was hoping to take a few long exposures in the blue hour. We kept chatting about his trip so far, about California and in general about photography. After a while , as I was talking, suddenly a golden streak of light tore through the thick cloud cover. It grew more intense in next few minutes and the dull and dreary evening suddenly became alive.

I didn't have much time to think about a composition. Fortunately though the old pier seemed to add to the mood of the hour.
